[Waterloo Daily Courier, Monday, December 21, 1942, Waterloo, Iowa]

Charles R. French, 66, of 313 Kingsley Avenue, employed as a machinist by the John Deere Tractor Company, died at 1:20 p.m. Monday at Presbyterian Hospital, of carcinoma. He had entered the hospital Sunday morning.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1876, in Illinois. On June 10, 1903, he married Elizabeth Deimel at Knierim, Ia.

Surviving besides the widow, are a son, Ralph, an ensign in the United States navy, stationed at Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Harold M. Dooley, Saginaw, Mich., and four sisters, Mrs. Lou Shellard, Yetter, Ia.; Mrs. Mollie Dunn, Sioux City, Ia.; Mrs. Dolly Shellard. Marathon, Ia., and Mrs. Gertie Holland, West Bend, Ia.

Five brothers preceded him in death.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

The body was taken to the Kearns Garden chapel.
