WAGON-MAKER DIED AT WORK

F. M. DYE WAS BORING HOLE WHEN SUMMENED

Though 80 Years Old, He Had Been at His Shop All Winter

La Porte City, Iowa, Feb. 24.— While at work in his wagon shop on Main Street at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Francis* Marion Dye, 80 years of age, died suddenly and apparently without suffering. His body was found partly reclining against the side of the shop, with one foot under him, ten minutes after life had departed.

He had been boring a hole in a piece of hardwood and the bit had penetrated the wood to a depth of two inches. Apparently, exhaustion from his efforts had brought on heart failure, and he collapsed beside his half-finished task.

A physician was summoned by those who found Mr. Dye partly reclining, as if asleep, but the doctor said death had intervened several minutes before.

With the exception of occasional attacks of stomach trouble., Mr. Dye had enjoyed excellent health and was exceptionally hale for one of his advanced years.

The aged man was a member of the Christian Science church. The funeral arrangements cannot be made until relatives situated at a distance can be heard from.

The surviving relatives are the widow, six children: Madora Hamilton of Watertown, S. D.; Martin and Frank Dye of Cedar Rapids, Sylvia Webber of West Liberty and Jennie Webber of Council Bluffs, sisters who married brothers, and Walter Dye of Brooklyn, N. Y.; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two full sisters, five half-sisters and two half-brothers.

Mr. Dye was born Dec. 14, 1832 at Mansfield, O. When a boy he moved to Nobles Co. Ind. Fifty-eight years ago he was married at Goshen, Ind. The family had resided in La Porte City for the past 21 years.

Mr. Dye was a man of lofty character and made many friends wherever he resided. He gained a wide acquaintance here among the farmers because of his duties as wagon maker. Because of his strong constitution and good health, the wagon-maker had been at his shop daily during the past winter. He seemed to feel better when at work than when idle and enjoyed his labors up to the time that death deprived him action of brain, heart and muscles. It was such a death as he hoped might come.
