CEDAR FALLS - Fred W. Breckenfelder, 94, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the home of natural causes.

He was born April 20, 1911, in Manchester, son of August and Magdalene Wolfe Breckenfelder. He married Mildred Adey on July 2, 1949, in Massachusetts. She preceded him in death on April 15, 1982.

Mr. Breckenfelder received his B.A. degree from the University of Northern of Iowa and studied for an M.A. at Boston College. He was employed as a chemist at Rath Packing Co., retiring in 1976. He was also a veteran of the Coast Guard, serving in World War II.

Survived by a nephew, Phil Lauterbach of Gladbrook; and two nieces, Beverly Lenz of Long Island, N.Y., and Janice Moribito of Doylestown, Pa.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Johanna Schoeman and Amelia Lauterbach.

Services: were Saturday at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Garden View Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Military rites were conducted by Becker Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
