WATERLOO - James Thompson, 58, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 19, 1955, in Waterloo, son of Leo and Ruth Petalos Thompson. He married Susan Cochran and they later divorced.

Mr. Thompson earned a GED and later a CNC certificate from Hawkeye Community College, and held permits to operate various industrial trucks and equipment. He worked as a machinist and in maintenance for several years at IBP and other industries in the area.

Survived by his former wife; a son, Christopher; six grandchildren; his mother; and four sisters, Barbara (Errol) Olsen of Harpers Ferry, Sharon Shipp of Marquette, Charlene Wroe of Evansdale and Robin (Ron) Stoneman of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his father; a son, Jeremy; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Wroe.

Private burial will be later at Garden of Memories Cemetery. No services will be held.
