WATERLOO -- James Hekel, 71, of Goshen, Ind., formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital.

He was born June 20, 1942, in Waterloo, son of Gordon and Alta Stafford Hekel.

A retired business owner, Mr. Hekel graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1960.

Survived by his father of Waterloo; five daughters, Debbie (Scott) MacKenzie of Phoenix, Cathy (Mike) Husmann of Center Point, Karrie Hekel of Cedar Falls, Laurie Hekel of Mobile, Ala., and Michelle Hekel of Waterloo; a son, Steve (Raquel) of Phoenix; six grandchildren; and a brother, William (Beverly) of Indianola.

Graveside services will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, is assisting the family with arrangements.
