WATERLOO - Thomas P. Galligan, 89, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Lawler, son of Frank and Edna Daily Galligan. He married Mary Kathryn "Kay" Sullivan on June 9, 1941, at the Church of the Nativity in Dubuque. She died Oct. 26, 2003.

He attended Loras College, Dubuque, and was employed by Walker's Shoe Store in Dubuque and Waterloo where he managed the downtown store for many years.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Sierra Club. He ushered for many years at St. Edward Church and was a longtime volunteer at Covenant Medical Center.

Survived by three sons, Robert (Suzanne) of Carroll, Patrick (Jayne) of Waukesha, Wis., and Timothy (Peggy) of Hudson, Ohio; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gerry (Ralph) Kennedy of New Hampton.

Preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Frances Nabak; and an infant sister, Patricia.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service.
