TRIPOLI -- Lorna Amanda Harmening, 88, of Tripoli, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

She was born Oct. 10, 1925, at her parents' home in Jubilee in Black Hawk County, daughter of Paul and Emilia Weltzin Sommerfelt. On Nov. 2, 1947, she married Alfred Harmening at St. John Lutheran Church – Crane Creek, rural Tripoli.

Mrs. Harmening did house cleaning in the Denver area and worked at Kurtt’s Store. She also helped with the farm.

Survived by her husband; a son, Dean (Kim) of Tripoli; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Harmening of Tripoli.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Alan; a sister, Esther Judisch; and two brothers, Carl Sommerfelt in infancy and Harold Sommerfelt.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church - Crane Creek, rural Tripoli, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
