WATERLOO - Robert E. Growney, 92, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Lakeview Lodge.

He was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Conception Junction, Mo., son of Eugene Emmet and Ruth Clare Merrigan Growney. He married Doris “Dot” Dexter on June 10, 1946, in Waterloo; she died Nov. 3, 1980.

Mr. Growney was employed with IPS (now MidAmerican Energy), retiring in 1984. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survived by two sons, James (Anne Marie) of Loudonville, N.Y., and Robert D. (Linda) of Madison, Wis.; four grandchildren, Christopher (Jenny), Karen (Scott Moore), Brian (Megan) and Bridget Growney; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Louis (Olive); and two sisters, Maureen (Ken) Lauterbach and Margaret “Peg” (Jerry) Peters.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 5 p.m. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Catholic Schools or Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart, Madison, Wis., to continue future catholic education.
