WATERLOO - The Rev. Marvin E. Durnin, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born April 16, 1924, in Waterloo, son of Edson Thomas and Ardis Trewin Durnin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He had been employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 36 years, retiring in 1982. He then served as pastor at Bethel Temple Assembly of God, Denver.

Survivors include three sons, Garry (Theresa) of Urbandale, Paul (Melody) of Johnston and Wayne of Texas; two daughters, Wanda Taylor of Independence, Mo., and Lonna (Troy) Haurum of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Thomas (Jackie), Kenny (Maxine) and Howard (Sue), all of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his former wife; a son, Marvin Terry; two brothers, Dewey and Irving; and a grandson.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Military rites will be conducted by Acker-Matthias American Legion Post 653 of Denver. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel.
