John Leslie "Jack" Wehrle, 85, of 1443 E. Ridgeway Ave., died Friday, Oct. 27, 1999 at Ravenwood Health Care Center of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 18, 1915, in Deer Lodge, Mont., son of Leslie Ray and Elizabeth Robinson Wehrle. He married Bertha Hanson Dec. 7, 1941, in Waterloo. Mr. Wehrle was employed as a machinist with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 33 years, retiring in 1974. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survived by his wife; four sons, John Jr. of Parsons, Kan., Francis "Fran" of Hudson, William "Bill" of Waterloo and Tom of Evansdale; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lena Catherine Knight of Winterset, Mary Isabella Peterson of Earlham and Virginia Saharoff of San Francisco.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Elbert; and a sister, Esther Meng.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with burial in the Lutheran section of Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.
