WATERLOO - Helen L. Olmstead, 93, of Waterloo, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Martin Health Care Center at Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.

She was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Council Bluffs, daughter of Charles and Minnie Holt Straube. She married Kenneth D. Olmstead on Feb. 28, 1942, in Lancaster, Minn.; he died May 5, 2005.

Mrs. Olmstead graduated from Washington Park High School, Racine, Wis., and was a homemaker.

Survived by a son, Larry of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Kenny (Jenny) Olmstead of Iowa City and Shari (Will) Timm of La Porte City; six great-grandchildren, Dillon Olmstead, and Bryan, Cybil, Catarina, Lydia and Ethan Timm; and a sister, Fern Hacker of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Richard, James and Charles Straube; and two sisters, Iva Lettsome and Genevieve Bosley.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Helen enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and spending time with her family.
