WATERLOO - Alexander C. "Alex" Gallacher, 79, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab, Cedar Falls.

He was born Feb. 14, 1934, in Girvan, Scotland, son of John and Elizabeth “Bessie” M'Lachlan Gallacher. He married Eleanor Coltart Oct. 31, 1954, in Girvan, Scotland.

Alex was employed with John Deere as a saw operator, retiring in 1995.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Alexander R. (Marli) of Bradenton, Fla., and Dan (Kara) of Readlyn; a daughter, AnnMarie (Tom) Williams of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Bree (Mike Garcia) Gallacher of Atlanta, Alexander Williams of Waterloo, Kaelan Gallacher and Dakota East, both of Readlyn, and J.J. Gallacher of Bradenton; two great-grandsons, Aidan and Isaac Garcia of Atlanta; a brother, Harry Gallacher of Toronto, Canada; three sisters, Betty Cassidy of Girvan, Scotland, Jean McDonald of Cambridge, Canada, and Mary Lodge of Stockton-on-Tees, England.

Preceded in death by three brothers, John, Willie and Dan.

Services: will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6:30 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
