Viola C. Gielau, 94, of Denver, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the Denver Sunset Home of natural causes.

She was born May 10, 1919, in Black Hawk County, daughter of Fred J. and Anna Dorthea Bartling Paul. She married Harold Henry Gielau on Jan. 14, 1940, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Mount Vernon Township; he died Aug. 9, 2012.

A 1936 graduate of Denver High School, Mrs. Gielau and her husband farmed in Black Hawk County from 1940-1988. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She also volunteered at the gift shop at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, for a few years.

Survived by a daughter, Karen Price of Denver; a son, Gary (Susan) of Menasha, Wis.; four grandchildren, Todd (Brenda) Price of Montezuma, Shannon (Ron) Beyrle of Waterloo, Meghan Gielau of Oshkosh, Wis., and Jessica (John) Johnson of Monee, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren, Breanna, Zachary, Logan and Kierstyn Price, Joshua, Nathan and Colton Beyrle, and Gabriel, Rebecca, Abigail, Emily and Katlyn Johnson; a great-great-grandchild, Kadence Beyrle; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Floyd Paul in infancy, and Harold Paul; and a son-in-law, John Price.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Mt. Vernon Township, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Denver Sunset Home.

Viola was a friendly and loving lady to her family and friends. She will be missed by so many!
