WATERLOO - Glenroy J. Fortsch Sr., 83, of Harpers Ferry, formerly of the Waterloo and Cedar Falls area, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born May 23, 1930, in Oran, son of Harold R. and Alice S. Ford Fortsch. On May 18, 1953, he married Juanita Demmel, and they later divorced. On May 18, 1974, he married Emmy Heiple at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; she died Dec. 29, 2001.

Mr. Fortsch graduated from Readlyn High School in 1948, and then served in the U.S. Navy. He was self-employed from 1954-1963 at Glen’s Refrigeration, and in 1963 went to work at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1984.

Survived by two daughters, Ann (Mike) Riley of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Sandy Becker of Sumner; a son, Glen J. Jr. (Peggy) of Hudson; two stepdaughters, Susan (Richard) Meyer of New Hartford and Elizabeth (Alan) Larson of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Claudette) of Lewiston, Minn.; a sister, Dorothy Brase of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Lou Fortsch of Readlyn.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ervin; a sister, Alice Ann Gumm; two grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; and a son-in-law, Bill Becker.

Celebration of Life services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Waverly, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
