CEDAR FALLS - Sophie K. Hartong, 87, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of 105 Oregon Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 at Life Care Center, Elkhorn, Neb., of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Max R. Hartong on Feb. 3, 1945, in Washington, D.C. He died June 18, 1996.

Mrs. Hartong served as a U.S. Navy WAVE during World War II and had worked at the Cedar Falls Public Library from 1964 to retiring in 1988.

Survived by two daughters, Margaret H. Thompson of Omaha and Mary Ann Williams of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren; and a stepsister, Anne Morgan Thaler of California.

Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation or services. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
