Rodney J. Even, 47, of rural Jesup, died at home Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001.

He was born Dec. 25, 1953, in Black Hawk County, son of Norbert F. and Jean E. Emerson Even. He married Suzane O'Connell Rutledge on Sept. 25, 1977, in Black Hawk County, and they later divorced. He married Kim Frey on Aug. 23, 1991, in Black Hawk County, and they later separated.

Mr. Even was employed by K&R Builders, Gilbertville, as a carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survived by two sons, Rodney J. Jr. of Waterloo and Rory A. of rural Jesup; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Rutledge of Evansdale; a stepson, Stephen Rutledge in Germany; his parents of Gilbertville; maternal grandmother, Emma Schaffer of Waterloo; five brothers, Kevin and Joseph, both of Gilbertville, Dennis of Washburn, Gary of Jesup and Brian of Waverly; and three sisters, Dixie Frawley of Reedsburg, Wis., Monica Frost of Gilbertville and Kathy Masteller of Jesup.

Preceded in death by a brother, Greg.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 3 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
