WATERLOO - William "Red" Kearney, 88, of 137 Wolgast St., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, from complications of pneumonia.

He was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Waterloo, son of William and Lottie Hunter Kearney. He married Iona Shadman Aug. 11, 1934, in Waverly. She died Oct. 21, 1969.

Mr. Kearney was a mechanic for Schukei Chevrolet, retiring in 1973. He also worked for area companies including John Deere, Rath Packing Co., Chamberlain Manufacturing, Petersen Auto and Hometown Dairy.

Survived by two sons, William "Butch" and Michael, both of Waterloo; three daughters, Doris Blankenship and Sandy Hunter, both of Waterloo, and Sally Berinobis of Elk Run Heights; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Baker of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Fink; four brothers, Frank, John, Fred and Jim; and a sister, Mayme.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Evansdale, with burial in Poyner Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a rosary and a vigil at 6 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
