Geraldine M. Thompson, 80, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Allen Hospital of a stroke.

She was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Larchwood, lowa, daughter of John and Lettitia Maude Woods Sliekers. She married Donald R. Thompson on Feb. 16, 1941, in Garwin, Iowa. He died June 12, 1982.

She graduated from Garwin High School in 1938. She worked at J.C. Penneys and many years at Rainbow Greenhouse before retiring. For many years she sang in "Mothers Chorus" and was active in the Waterloo Church of Christ.

Survived by two sons, Bill R. Thompson and his wife Colleen of Iowa City, and Donald A. Thompson of Waterloo; a sister, Mrs. Jeanne Messerschmitt of Hedrick, Iowa; a brother, John Sliekers Jr. of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Mrs. Tammy Myers of Jesup, Bryan Thompson of Waterloo, Mrs. Janice Betit of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Brenda Hamerski of Prior Lake, Minn., and Michael Thompson of Iowa City; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Arden Allen Sliekers; and a sister, Geneva Alice Knepp.

Services: will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at the Waterloo Church of Christ, with committal service at 2:30 p.m. at Garwin Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for an hour before the service at the church.
