CEDAR FALLS — Harold Baker, 80, of Cedar Falls and Mission, Texas, formerly of Dysart, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at his home in Mission after a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Grundy Center, son of Clifford R. and Louise Burrneister Baker. He married Margaret Keen on Sept. 20, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. They later divorced. He married Jean Cowles on Nov. 26, 1977.

Mr. Baker was retired from John Deere Tractor Co.; Waterloo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survived by his wife; a son, David of Dysart; two daughters, Annette Petersen of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Debra Baker of Dysart; a stepson, Brian Evans of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Clifford L. Baker of Dysart.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy; and two brothers, Ralph and Robert Waller.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart, with burial in the Dysart Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Dysart American Legion. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.nl Tuesday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established.

Harold Ernest Baker was born at Grundy Center, Iowa on August 21, 1920, the son of Clifford R. and Louise (Burmeister) Baker. Harold received his education in Grundy Center and Graduated from Dysart High School in the Class of 1938. Harold continued his education at Upper Iowa University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Harold married Margaret Keen on September 20, 1941 at Lancaster, MO. They first made their home in California where Harold served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Later they returned to Iowa and lived in the Dysart Community. Following Harold and Margaret's divorce, Harold moved to make his home in Waterloo where he was employed by the John Deer Tractor Co.

On November 26, 1977 Harold married Jean Cowles and lived in Waterloo and more recently in Cedar Falls. In free moments Harold enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed wintering in Mission Texas and in more recent months had been in failing health.

His death came at their home in Mission, TX on Monday, December 18, 2000 at the age of 80 years. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Kathy, and two brothers: Ralph and Robert Waller.

He is survived by his wife Jean of Cedar Falls, one son David Baker of Dysart, two daughters; Mrs. Annette Petersen of Sunrise Beach, MO and Debra Baker of Dysart, one step son Brian Evans of West Des Moines, one brother, Clifford L. Baker of Dysart, four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.

Services will be held 10:30 Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at the Overton Funeral Home. Visitation 2:00 to 6:00 PM Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000 at the Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Bogue. Military Graveside Services at Dysart Cemetery.
