WATERLOO—Lynal A. Root, 70, of Oak Brook, Ill., formerly of Waterloo, died Nov. 17, 2000, at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Ill., of natural causes.

Mr. Root was born in Eagle Grove. He attended Miltonvale Theological College, Miltonvale, Kan, then worked for 18 years in the purchasing department of an Iowa packing company. He then went to work for McDonald's Corp., having been promoted to U.S. purchasing director in 1969. He was appointed vice president in 1973 and senior vice president in 1981, retiring in 1997 after 31 years of service. After his retirement he and his wife operated a Mail Boxes Etc. franchise business.

Survived by his wife, Deborah; three daughters, Connie Schildmeier, Kathy Root and Diane Massie; a son, Randall; two stepdaughters, Christine Staunton and Jennifer Root; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard and Richard; and a sister Jolene Burr.

Services: were Nov. 22 at Oak Brook Community Church, with burial in Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook. Gibbons Funeral Home, Elmhurst, Ill, was in charge of arrangements.
