WATERLOO — Vernon "Tom" McNulty, 85, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born March 23, 1927, in Melvin, son of Basil C. and Rose Keller McNulty. He married Josephine Larson on June 9, 1951, in West Union. She died July 21, 1988.

He graduated from school in West Union. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving both in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring after 30 years as a project engineer. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers, American Legion and numerous veteran organizations and museum. He was also an avid amateur radio operator for over 60 years.

Survived by two sons, Steven (Donna) of Janesville and Michael (Pat) of Waterloo; a daughter, Theresa (Grayson) Forcier of Raymond; a sister, Marilyn Harberts of Independence; five grandchildren, Jeff (Tammy) Miller, Jeremy Miller-Verduyn, Douglas McNulty, Sidney (Angel) McNulty and Heidi McNulty; and eight great- grandchildren.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Basil C., Eugene, Everett and Russell; and a sister, Helen Henderson.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, preceded by two hours of visitation, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Marine Corps Honor Guard.
