Marval Williams, 105, of Oelwein, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein.

She was born Oct. 1, 1907, in Waterloo, daughter of Leo and Mae Russell Fern. She married Churchill T. Williams on July 27, 1942. He died Nov. 15, 2005.

Mrs. Williams graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1925 and received a degree in secondary education from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), Cedar Falls. She taught history at Morning Sun for four years, then moved to California and worked for the American Red Cross, Muroc. She served on several committees at the Oelwein Public Library. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, PEO, Tuesday Tourist Club, Order of the Eastern Star Oelwein Chapter 45 and the Shrine Auxiliary.

Survived by a niece, Catherine (Frank) Ciccarelli of Dearborn Heights, Mich.

Preceded in death by a sister, Grace McCullough; and a brother, Robert Fern.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein. Visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Shriners Crippled Children, Minneapolis.

Marval and Church were strong supporters of Oelwein in many ways including college scholarships and the Williams Center.
