Darwin D. Beatty, 76, of Ionia, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born July 7, 1936, in Arnolds Park, son of Albert and Violet Christopher Beatty. He married Ramona Goodwin on Nov. 11, 1956, in Waterloo, and they were later divorced. He then married Alice E. Hardman on June 2, 1978, at Republic Church, rural Nashua.

Mr. Beatty worked for 29 years at Rath Packing Co. [Waterloo] in the clean-up department until 1984. He then owned a cow-calf operation until his retirement in 1998. He also raised quarter horses and Basinji dogs.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Kenneth (Diane Weeks) of Maryland, Robert (Rosena) of Nashua, Darwin Dean (Jamie) of Charles City and Edward (Deb Givens) of New Market; two daughters, Rose (Robert) Otters of Fredericksburg and LyRae Beatty of Waterloo; a brother, Alwyn (Jackie) of Westgate; a sister, Nettie (Ralph) Corson of Arizona; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Gwen Janssen.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
