WATERLOO - Helen B. Mason, 88, Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Friendship Village Retirement Center of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 18, 1916, in Montevideo, Minn., daughter of Joseph J. and Caroline Ondahl Sachse. She married Robert Mason on Jan. 18, 1957, at First Methodist Church, Yankton, S.D. He died Aug. 31, 1990.

Mrs. Mason was a 1935 graduate of Montevideo High School; graduated from John Fletcher College, Oskaloosa, with a two-year teaching certificate and from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, with a bachelors degree in education. She taught in Maple Hill and Pilot Mound, then moved to Waterloo in 1945 where she taught at Lowell and Black Hawk elementary schools, retiring in 1972. She then earned her real estate license and in 1974 her brokers license. She owned and managed Mason Realty for 20 years and A-1 Balloon World from 1985 to 1996.

She was a member of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), PEO Chapter JP and Tri T, Chapter BJ Sons of Norway and Delta Kappa Gamma, Friendship Village Auxiliary and the Village Voices of Friendship Village.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie J. Mason and Sandra E. Kehoe, both of Des Moines; two sons, Robert L. (Donna) of Urbandale and David J. (Sindy) of Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren .

Preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Leonard W. Sachse.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Village Chapel, preceded by burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Central Christian Church or Friendship Village Auxiliary.
