WATERLOO - Lewis L. Liebe, 96, of Friendship Village, formerly of 824 Hawthorne Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Friendship Village.

He was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Earlville, son of Charles A. and Martha Ellen Cruise Liebe. He married Ruth J. Slick on Dec. 28, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. She died Dec. 28, 1976.

Mr. Liebe worked for Montgomery Wards and Sherwin-Williams. Before his retirement in 1982, he was a self-employed painter and decorating contractor for 30 years. For many years he had been a volunteer with the Hawkeye Community College Senior Companion Program.

He has no surviving relatives, but many close friends.

Preceded in death by a brother, Burtrom Liebe.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Friendship Village Chapel, preceded by burial at 10 a.m. in the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball.

Memorials may be directed to Bethel Presbyterian Church or Friendship Village Auxiliary.
