DEATH OF MR. CARPENTER

A Well Known Citizen Passes Away Suddenly at His Home

Death has again invaded the ranks of the pioneers of Cedar Falls, this time removing from our midst our venerable old friend, Oscar Carpenter who passed quietly away at the family residence in the south part of the city at one o'clock last Saturday morning surrounded by his wife and children, his end coming to him as though he fell asleep. The deceased has made his home here for many years and at one time was one of the successful businessmen of the city but of late years live a retired life.

He is survived by his faithful wife and seven children, two sons, Edward and Harry both of this city and five daughters: Mrs. George Gallarno and Mrs. Harriet Carpenter of Des Moines, Mrs. Charles Sellen, Mrs. Will Williams, and Mrs. Ward Pierce and Miss Dade all of this city.

He is proceeded in death by a son, Dexter who lost his life many years ago while working in the lime kiln.

Mr. Carpenter will be greatly missed by his family as he was always devoted to home and children and likewise by a large circle of acquaintances and friends who knew him as an honest upright citizen.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the family residence conducted by Rev. Birney and assisted by Rev. Snowden, burial taking place in Greenwood.
