Miss Viola D. DeDienear* was born in Lockport, N. Y. Sept. 21, 1836** and in the year 1855 on July 4th was united in marriage to Oscar W. Carpenter who preceded her in death only a few weeks.

To this union ten children were born, all of whom were present when the final summons came with the exception of a daughter, Mrs. R. A. Dunham whose home in Oklahoma City, and a son, Dexter who met his death in an accident some twenty years ago. The children who were present were: E. E. Carpenter, Mrs. Chas. W. Sellen, Mrs. Will Williams, Mrs. Ward Pierce, Miss Dade, all of whom reside in the city, Mrs. George Gallarno and Harry of Waterloo, Mrs. Dunham having just returned to her home a few days ago having been caring for her mother since her fathers death and thinking that she would continue to improve but sad to say was not to be the case.

Mrs. Carpenter was a good woman and a kind mother, her life was an open book to all, her kind disposition and helpful ways made many friends. She was devoted to the home and her family who will greatly miss her for she was mother, the dearest one on earth has gone to her eternal reward and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.

The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the family residence, conducted by Rev. Birney and Rev. Snowden and the remains will be laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery beside those of her departed husband and son.
