WATERLOO - Jacob "Jake" Ferguson, 24, of Olathe, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at home of a viral infection.

He was born Feb. 23, 1989, in Albuquerque, N.M., son of Dan and Kathryn Nokes Ferguson. He married Sara Sams on Sept. 23, 2012.

He attended Kansas State University and was employed at ISPN.

Survived by his wife; his unborn son; his parents (his father is formerly of Waterloo); paternal grandmother, Bettie Ferguson of Waterloo; paternal uncles, Thomas J. (Kathy) of Waterloo and Steve (Angela) of Windsor, Colo.; paternal aunt, Mary (Judi) of Lodi, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Anne Nokes of Albuquerque; maternal grandfather, David (Marie) of Sedona, Ariz.; maternal uncles, Jim (Kim) of Torrance, Calif., and John (Diane) of Austin, Texas; and seven cousins.

Preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Thomas R. Ferguson.

Services: were Dec. 28 in Olathe, with inurnment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka, Kan.

Memorials may be sent to his parents at 427 Ninth Ave., No. 602, San Diego, CA 92101, for a fund to be established for his child.

Jake's favorite quote was from the film "Into the Wild." It reads "There is some kind of bigger thing we can all appreciate, and it sounds like you don't mind calling it God. But, when you forgive, you love. And when you love, God's light shines in you ... Happiness is only real when shared."
