Emma Bern, 90, of rural Reinbeck, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in rural Traer, daughter of Joseph and Mary Frances Yuska Kubik. She married Leslie W. Bern June 1, 1946, in Cedar Rapids.

She graduated from Hudson High School. She helped her husband on their family farm doing various operations, including driving a tractor. She was a member of Salem Church of Lincoln and belonged to the United Women Group of Salem Church.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Marlis (Larry) Helland of Reinbeck; and a granddaughter, Lisa Helland (fiance Matthew Peyton) of Plymouth, Minn.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Alba Mareska, Hermenia Dostal and Mary Stanek; and five brothers, Joe, Milo, Frank, Theodore and Edward Kubik.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Church of Lincoln, Lincoln, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at French-Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck.

Memorials may be directed to the Salem Church of Lincoln.

She loved to cook, bake and sew for her family. Emma will be missed and long remembered by her friends and family.
