WATERLOO -- Ralph O. Sander, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 7, 1930 in Cosby, Mo., son of Otto and Lula Vogel Sander. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" VanScoy on April 30, 1961, in Ames.

He graduated from Savannah High School in Savannah, Mo., and went on to receive a degree in dairy science from the University of Missouri. Mr. Sander worked at Carnation Dairy for many years, then in the milk lab for the city of Waterloo, and then later started up the Northeast Iowa Water Lab with his wife. He was a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Deb (Jack) Lienau of Jesup and Diane (Larry) Penland of Clive; a son, Jeff of Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Leonard; and a sister, Nelda McCrerey.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kearns Funeral Service-Kimball Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, and Cedar Bend Humane Society at 1166 W. Airline Highway, Waterloo.
