Cheryl Marie Brannon Hathorne, 63, of Reinbeck, died Sunday, Dec. 29, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home, Reinbeck, of glioblastoma brain cancer.

She was born May 26, 1950, in Waterloo, daughter of Russell and Dorothy Brannon.

A 1969 graduate of Waterloo West High School, she worked in the grocery/convenience store business. She was the manager at most of those jobs and was the first female manager of Aldi food stores.

Survived by: a daughter, Shae (David) Edge; two sons, Shawn (Alisha) O'Connor and Shane (Melody) Hathorne; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Nick and Micayla Ugron, Shali and Brody O'Connor, Kelsea and Bryson Hathorne, and Samson Edge; a stepgranddaughter, Aubrey Jordan; her mother; two brothers, Richard and Michael (Rebecca) Brannon; an aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Harold Freese; her cat, Vic; and many friends.

Preceded in death by her father; and a brother, David Brannon.

Memorial celebration: 2 p.m. Friday at New Life Assembly, Reinbeck.

She requested before dying that people not wear black to mourn, but to wear "happy colors" to celebrate her life.
