CEDAR FALLS - Orrin “Gil” Gilbert, 87, of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.

He was born May 5, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Ralph and Cleo Brown Schroedermeier. He married Sharon Eriksen on Oct. 15, 1955, in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed with the city of Cedar Falls, Dahl Funeral Home, J. S. Latta and retired as a groundskeeper at the University of Northern Iowa.

Survived by his wife; a son, Jerome Kent (Christina) of Le Grand; two grandchildren, Amanda Gilbert-Heyl and Sarah Gilbert; two great-grandchildren, Lilly George and William George VII; a brother, Ralph Schroedermeier Jr. of Waverly; and a sister, Beverly White of Plainfield.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stanley Schroedermeier.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
