WATERLOO -- Wayne R. "Rusty" Lighthart, 88, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died at St Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013.

He was born in Waterloo on May 19, 1925.

Mr. Lighthart was a Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II and served again in the Korean Conflict. His total active duty spanned seven years of service. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Waterloo, and then in Green Valley, Ariz.; where he served on the Veterans Service Committee assisting military veterans in residence at the Veterans Hospital in Tucson.

Survived by a son, Jeffrey Wayne (Valorie); a grandchild, Sydney Christine Hansen; a sister, Clara Dutcher; a daughter-in-law, Susan Lighthart; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife, Dixie; two sons, Scott Lane and Christopher Michael; his parents; and other siblings.

Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers may be directed in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
