WATERLOO - Viola M. Barr, 89, of Ridgeway Place, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Oct. 10, 1916, in St. Cloud, Minn., daughter of Stephan and Bertha Bauer Salzer. She married Edward S. Barr on Oct. 4, 1941, in Waterloo. He died Dec. 13, 2002.

Mrs. Barr was a homemaker and volunteer with the Covenant Auxiliary. She was a member of the Waterloo Elklets, Waterloo Women's Club, Garden Club and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Jr. of Erie, Colo., and Martin (Julie) of Buffalo, Minn.; two daughters, Mary (Richard) Loomer and Beverly Kirby, both of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Sara Shelton, Benjamin (Lauren) Loomer, Sheila Shelton, David (Rachel) Barr, Ryan Loomer, James Barr and Cody Barr; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Emma Roske of Cold Spring, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Salzer; and three sisters, Olivia Winter, Rose Schackman and Helen Kramer.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home or St. Edward Catholic Church.

Vi was a sharp bridge player who loved gardening, knitting and needlework, cooking, and volunteering. Her family was her greatest pride.
