Tom Van Gorder, 57, of West Plaines, Mo., formerly of Vinton, died Sunday, Sept. 10, at Ozark Medical Center, West Plaines, following a sudden illness.

He was born July 27, 1949, in Cedar Falls, son of Milton and Frances Henkle Van Gorder. On Jan. 14, 1998, he married Connie Arp at Maui, Hawaii.

Mr. Van Gorder attended East Buchanan High School. He was employed by Blahnik Construction, Cedar Rapids, as a millwright, retiring in 2004 after 30 years of service.

Survivors include: his wife; three daughters, Teri Lynn Goins of Ankeny, Tara Teel of Winthrop and Chelsea Van Gorder of Quasqueton; four grandchildren; his mother of Evansdale; four sisters, Rita Pillard of Ellsworth, Nancy (Rich) Michels of Independence, Jeanette (Danny) Miller of San Antonio and Betty Van Gorder of Maple Grove, Minn.; and a brother, Dennis (Barb) of North Fayette.

Preceded in death by: his father; a sister, Shirley; and a brother, Dale.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vinton, with private committal services to be held. Memorial services will be later in West Plaines. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Vinton, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
