[Iowa State Reporter; Waterloo, Iowa, Thursday, February 9, 1888]

James Glover, one of the oldest residents of this county, died at his home in this city last Friday, Feb. 3rd, at the age of 90 years 1 month and 9 days.

Deceased was born in Huntington County, Penn., and came to Blackhawk County in the spring of 1854. He attended the first Fourth of July celebration ever held in Waterloo, and took quite a prominent part in the affairs of the county at that time. He settled and lived on his farm in Waterloo twp. on the Cedar Falls road until about six years ago, when he moved into and became a resident of this city.

For a man of his years he was quite ambitious and energetic. On last Thanksgiving Day he had a bad fall, which resulted in the fracture of his thigh, and this accident probably hastened his death, there being no other cause save old age.

Mrs. Glover, his wife, died two years ago, the 20th day of August, at the age of 85 years.

Deceased was the father of seven children, all of whom are living, John M. Glover, of Graham County, Kansas; Mrs. John Hartman, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Mrs. John Randall, of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Mrs. Willis Shepherd, of Niobrara, Neb.; Wm. Glover and Mrs. Dan'l Leonard, of Magnolia, Iowa, and Mrs. F. A. Hayden, of Chicago, Ill.

The funeral was held last Sunday at the German Baptist Church, Rev. L, R. Piefer officiating. Four of the children and a grandson, G. D. Pratt, of Chicago, were in attendance at the funeral.
