[Iowa State Reporter, Waterloo, Iowa, Wednesday, April 5, 1882]

Ella R. Case died at the home of her parents, in this city, last Saturday. The disease which caused her death was consumption, and she had been sick since the holidays.

She was born June 17, 1868, and was consequently nearly 14 years of age. She was possessed of more than common intelligence, and her conduct and conversation during health denoted a quiet and gentle disposition that drew all hearts to her and brought her numerous friends, who now join her parents in mourning her death. Before her sickens she was a regular attendant of the Baptist Sunday school and among the most interested pupils of her class.

Her last moments on earth were rarely touching and beautiful. She understood fully that she was nearing the end, and a few moments before it was reached called her parents and five brothers to her bedside and kissed each good-bye, and, in brave words, endeavored to assuage their grief - telling them that she died a Christian and so all was well. After this she repeated the little prayer beginning, "Now I lay me down to sleep," and her voice grew fainter towards the close and she fell asleep.

The funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. R. Garton, Monday afternoon, and were attended by a large number of friends of the family and neighbors.
