WATERLOO - Barton L. Schwieger, 64, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 4, 1941, in Hampton, son of Howard and Yvonne Kempthorne Schwieger. He married Susan McIntee on Nov. 21, 1981, in Waterloo.

Mr. Schwieger received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1963, and received his juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1966. He was a practicing attorney in Waterloo for 33 years, retiring in 1999. He served as a staff member with Black Hawk County Legal Aid Services and served with the 64th General Assembly with the Iowa House of Representatives and later represented the 17th Senatorial District in the Iowa Senate 65th General Assembly.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Matthew of Stanford, Calif.; a daughter, Anne Schwieger of Ithaca, N.Y.; a brother, Carlyn of Dows; a brother-in-law, William F. McIntee of Richmond, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Howard and Yvonne Schwieger and John and Sandy Schwieger.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
