WATERLOO - Luverne D. Arms, 87, of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Brookings, S.D., son of Clinton D. and Vesta L. LaMay Arms. He married Wilma Toops on Dec. 22, 1944, in Tulare, S.D.

Mr. Arms received his bachelor's degree from John Fletcher College in Oskaloosa and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from John Deere in 1983, having worked as a stock clerk for 36 six years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary (Susie) of Dubuque, Darrell (Lisa) of Beloit, Wis., and Craig (Laura) of Belleville, Ill.; two daughters, Kay Arms of Waterloo and Muriel (Mark) Larson of Aplington; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, M. Wesley (Florence) Arms of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and a sister, Lois Osborne of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Preceded in death by a brother, Eldin.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lighthouse Fellowship Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
