In loving memory of Kellie Lee Gibbs, 47, born Jan. 1, 1961, and passed away due to a heart attack on Dec. 19, 2008.

Kellie was born in Independence, Mo., and passed away in Castle Rock, Colo. Kellie and Susan Ramsey had originated the Epona Project in Colorado to save as may wild horses as possible, which they achieved together.

Kellie graduated from Waterloo East High School in May 1979. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1988. Kellie was an accomplished photographer in which she won several awards in Colorado of various pictures she had taken of horses and rodeos.

Kellie is survived by her close companion, Susan Ramsey of Castle Rock; her mother, Carole Gibbs of Redondo Beach, Calif.; her father, Hagan Gibbs of Springfield, Mo.; her brother, Robert Gibbs of Georgetown, Colo.; her sisters, Terri Bowers of Snoqualmie, Wash., and Kimberly Harrigan of Redondo Beach; Kellie’s children, Erika Gibbs and Alexander Palmer, both of Denver, Colo.; her uncle, Phillip Gibbs of Taos, N.M.; and Kellie’s former husband, Neal Palmer of Littleton, Colo.

Kellie was buried in Wheatridge, Colo, at the Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary Cemetery on Dec. 26, 2008.

Kellie Lee Gibbs 1961-2008

Kellie Lee Gibbs senior feature writer at Out Front Colorado from 1995-1999, died on December 19, 2008 from heart failure. While at Out Front Colorado, Kellie published over 400 articles on HIV/AIDS, plitics, celebrity interview and more. In 1999, Kellie founded to take her passion for HIV/AIDS in S. Africa, which premiered at the 2000 U.S. National Conference on HIV/AIDS. Global Focus produced documentaries on HIV/AIDS, war orphans in Colombia and many local places. In 2004, she turned attention to horses and founded The Epona Project, which rescued over 120 slaughter-bound horses by the time of her death. She also pursued her interest in photography. Her show, "Equincity," toured libraries all over Colorado in 2006-2007.

She is survived by her partner of 14 years, Susan Ramsey, and four children, Jason, Erika, Alex and Alex.
