WATERLOO - William "Bill" Hey Burton, 80, of Indian Wells, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013.

He was born in Waterloo on Dec. 29, 1932, son of Robert and Wilma Hey Burton.

He graduated from West High School in 1951, and from the University of Iowa in 1955, where he was active in sports and music and lettered in track. He served as a 1st Lieutenant and pilot in the Air Force from 1955 to 1961. Mr. Burton owned Bill Burton's Crossroads Ford dealership and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce, and served as president of the Crossroads Mall Association and Sunnyside Country Club.

Survived by his wife, Joyce; his dog, Bella; a sister, Martha Larson of Peterson, Minn.; two sons, Steve of San Diego, and Jim of Marietta Ga.; two daughters, Kerry Powers of Tampa, Fla., and Denise Burton Roberts of Indio, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren, Ben, Grace and Sam Powers, Will and Callen Burton, Meghan, Emma and Jake Burton and Felicia and Michael Roberts.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church, 47-321 Highway 74, Palm Desert, Calif.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
