LA PORTE CITY - Maxine E. Stern, 91, of La Porte City, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Waterloo, daughter of Don and Margaret Loney Smock Sr. She married Lloyd Stern on Oct. 21, 1939, in Waterloo; he died March 6, 1967.

Mrs. Stern worked as a CNA for many years in Grundy Center and also La Porte City.

Survived by three daughters, Roxie Weisbrod of Grundy Center, Becky (Wayne) Weisbrod of Bloomfield and Deanie (Bret) Smock of La Porte City; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Kern of Florida.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve; two daughters, Pat Joyner and Barbara Fleck; three grandchildren; five brothers, Don, Jr., Howard, Darrell, Lloyd and Merlin Smock; and a sister, Caryol Tabor.

Visitation: noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel, followed by a chapel committal service. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
