WATERLOO - Paul T. Lutgen, 83, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born June 16, 1930, in Raymond, son of John and Susan Welter Lutgen. He married Jeanne Frost on April 22, 1952, in Gilbertville.

Mr. Lutgen was a supervisor at John Deere Tractor Works for 36 ½ years, retiring in 1984. He was Past Faithful Navigator of Hennessey Assembly, Past Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 700, chairman of Sacred Heart, St. Vincent DePaul Conference, and was active at Sacred Heart Parish.

Survived by his wife; a son, Jack (Tina) of Bettendorf; a daughter, Peggy Wentworth of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis of Gilbertville; and three sisters, Hilda Schmit, Theresa Delagardelle and Rita Weber, all of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Harry and Lou Frost; four brothers, Eugene, Joseph and two in infants; four sisters, Leone Rapalee, Mary Phillips, Anna Mae Schmit and Donna Mae Frost; and a great-granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to St. Vincent DePaul or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was an avid fisherman and loved the Mississippi River, his garden and most of all his family. He loved spending time with his family.
