WATERLOO - Raymond J. Kass, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Martin Center, Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.

He was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Orleans, Neb., son of Charles P. and Mary Ann Thoma Kass. He married Dorothy Steve on July 22, 1948, in Dubuque.

Mr. Kass was employed with John Deere and Rath Packing Co., and later farmed in the Waterloo area for many years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Jerry and Richard (Kathy Sadler), both of Waterloo; two daughters, Mary (Dr. James) Connell of Waterloo and Beverly Crosby of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur of Dunkerton and Arnold of Independence; two sisters, Mathilda Phillips of Jesup and Magdalene Koehler of Independence; and a sister-in-law, Marie Kass of Jesup.

Preceded in death by a brother, Alfred; and four sisters, Rosa Ambrosy Barth, Armella Sadler, Marcella Ambrosy and Philomeno Phillips.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a beneficiary to be named at a later date.
