WATERLOO - Donald Lee Leopard Sr., 80, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the Martin Center of the Western Home, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Lee and Thelma Barton Leopard. He married Oma Walker on Nov. 5, 1949, in Waterloo. She died Nov. 17, 1992.

Mr. Leopard was employed as a conductor with the Illinois Central Railroad, retiring in 1984. He also served in the United States Navy.

Survived by three sons, Don Jr. (Dee) of Madison, Wis., Larry (Martha) of La Porte City and Kirk (Diane) of Rochester, Minn.; three daughters, Rita (David) Wettengel of Chino, Calif., Jocelyn (Gary) Schons of Evansdale and Laura (Mike) Ungs of Independence; 12 grandchildren, D.J. Leopard III, Sam Leopard, Kate Leopard, Kyle Leopard, Anna Leopard, Jim Wettengel, Melissa Waters, Chief Petty Officer Troy Sullivan, Deb Card, John Sullivan, Ben Ungs and Emily Ungs; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty Berger of Pennsylvania, Dolores Kangley of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Kathy (Harold) Geffre of Eureka, S.D.

Preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.
