WATERLOO - Evelyn M. Kober, 93, of 3031 W. Fourth St., died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Oct. 31, 1911, in La Porte City, daughter of Ezra L. and Georgia M. Hughes Kober. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1929, and attended Gates College for two years. She worked as an operations officer at National Bank of Waterloo for 43 years, retiring in 1977. She also worked for the Civil Service as a "skywatcher" in Waterloo after World War II.

Ms. Kober was a longtime member of Kimball Avenue Methodist Church, where she has been a lay speaker, a Sunday School teacher in the childrens department, and sang in the choir. She was past president of the YWCA, and had been a board member for years. In 1958, she was designated Woman of the Year by the city of Waterloo. She was former vice president of the Business and Professional Womens Club and sang with the Metropolitan Chorale for many years. She volunteered with the Ravenwood Care Center Auxiliary and was one of the founders of the Golden Apple Club.

Survivors include three cousins, K.L. Kober and Charles E. (Shirley) Spicher, both of Waterloo, and Richard G. Spicher of Omaha, Neb; and her friend, Dorothy Teague of Waterloo.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, Waterloo, with private family inurnment in West View Cemetery, La Porte City. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home. Her body has been cremated.

Memorials may be directed to the church, YWCA, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
