WATERLOO - Harold P. Bravender, 86, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born March 13, 1922, in New Orleans, son of James Joseph and Eugenia Rauch Bravender. He married Shirley Weed on Feb. 10, 1968, in Evansdale.

Mr. Bravender was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was employed with Rath Packing Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1982.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Dan (Karen) Bravender of Melba, Idaho, Robert Weed of Britt and Craig (Valerie) Bravender of Waterloo; three daughters, Joanie (Max) Kriz of Waterloo, and Candy (Jim) Hundley and Renee (Tom) Lloyd, both of Waverly; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jackie Olivari of New Orleans.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Skeets, Jerry, Dennis and Raymond; and nine sisters, Clair Meiancor, Audrey Ghersanich, Frances Seitz, Theresa Maurer, Elizabeth Trammell, Rita Ryan, Elberta Clary, Gladys Marine and Jean Wilson.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
