LA PORTE CITY - Wilma A. Weatherly, 101, of La Porte City, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born Feb. 3, 1905, in Appanoose County, daughter of M. E. and Estella McDanel. She married Dwight "Mike" Weatherly May 14, 1927, in Centerville. He preceded her in death May 29, 1943.

She graduated from Moravia High School in 1923 and received her Normal Training Certificate. She taught country school for four years in Appanoose County and two years in Big Creek Township, Black Hawk County. She was a bookkeeper at La Porte City Utilities for 35 years, retiring in 1980.

She served as worthy matron of Lyra Chapter No. 129, La Porte City, O.E.S.

Survived by a son, Jerry D. of La Porte City; a daughter, Wanda L. McQuilkin of La Porte City; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Gaylord, Cyril and Doyle McDanel; and a sister, Orpha L. Monroe.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City, with inurnment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia, at a later date. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at church. Her body has been cremated. Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, is in charge of arrangements.
