Rolland H. Runyan 59, rites Friday

La Porte City--Funeral services for Rolland H. (Rollie) Runyan, 59, who died Wednesday at 8 a.m. in University Hospitals in Iowa City from injuries he sustained Sept. 15 in an explosion in Urbana, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City. The Rev. Galen Peckham will officiate. Burial will be at West View Cemetery in La Porte City. Johannsen-Rossow-Dykeman Funeral Home in La Porte City is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Runyan is survived by his parents, Raymond and Louise (Kaiser) Runyan of La Porte City; his wife, Maxine of Rural Mount Auburn; two sons, Ronald R. and Dennis N. Runyan both of La Porte City; two daughters, Carol A. Emberton of La Porte City and Joyce E. Chrisinger of Iowa City; three brothers, Donald and Wilber of La Porte City and Ted of Britt; a sister, Mrs. Jerry Rossiter of Des Plaines, Ill.; and 10 grandchildern.

Memorials may be sent to the emergency unit of La Porte City Fire Department.

1981 update involved with lawsuit.

Rolland H. Runyan died in University Hospitals at Iowa City Sept. 27, 1978, of burns and related injuries suffered 12 days earlier in an explosion and fire at the residence of Ada Burrell in Urbana. The suit says that on Sept. 15, 1978, Runyan, while employed by Sam Annis and Co. of Waterloo, was in the process of preparing to light a furnace in the basement of the house when the explosion occurred, and it claims the accident was caused by an accumulation of liquid propane gas in the furnace and basement.

The suit claims the gas accumulation was caused by a defective Honeywell gas control valve...
