OTLEY -- Loretta Dorothy Jebe was born in Benton County on March 20, 1935, to Wesley F. Jebe Sr. and Mabel Jurgens Jebe. She graduated valedictorian from La Porte City High School in La Porte City in 1952 and received a B.S. in home economics education from Iowa State University, Ames, in 1956. She and William J. "Bill" Immel were united in marriage in 1960 at Waterloo, and spent the next two years in Iowa City, where she taught at Oxford High School while Bill attended the University of Iowa. Following his graduation, the C.I.A. recruited him and they lived in Northern Virginia for the next 29 years. They raised their children there and Loretta later became a saleslady in women’s apparel at Rodier and Macy’s. They retired in 1990 and returned to Iowa where they built their retirement home in Painted Rocks overlooking Lake Red Rock.

Loretta passed away there on Saturday morning, Nov. 30, 2013. Loretta loved to travel, sew, read, assemble puzzles and after enjoying performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., was pleased to discover the Des Moines Civic Center.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, and their children, Lorna, Lisa and William J.(Jay) Immel; and the following uncle and aunts, Jim and Virginia Abernathy of Evansdale, Dorothy Morrison and Caroline Rock of La Porte City, and Isabel Schuck of Elberon.

A visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Knoxville. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church, La Porte City, with a visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Quality Home Care of Knoxville or Hospice of Central Iowa (HCI).
